Did Somebody Say Rally?

We did it! We sold all of our Girl Guide Cookies today is the day! Our bus is leaving in a few hours for the day that we have been waiting for since the beginning of the year.  Close to 400 girls are boarding the bus for Rally Day 2014 at Canada's Wonderland.   The theme is One Voice.  Throughout the day, we will enjoy doing activities in the WAGGGS 5 regions.  We will also have a chance to listen to a few great performances and finally get to perform the Rally Dance with close to 8,000 other people.   Late in the afternoon, we will be able to enter into the theme park and ride some of the rides that Wonderland has to offer.

The 10 girls and 5 leaders from 81st Brownies are super excited to meet new friends, do some fun activities, scream on the rides, and experience a lifetime opportunity that all of us are going to remember within in our Guiding experience.   I hope to meet lots of new friends and be sure to stay tuned for an update and some pictures.

Through the Looking Glass

A few Saturdays ago,  the Sparks and Brownies of the Community gathered at Camp Bryerswood for Spark Spree and Brownie Revel with the theme of Alice and Wonderland.  The girls had fun playing croquet t with flamingoes, making mad hatter hats,  playing games and singing songs.

Magic Tree House Camp

The Windsor Brownies and the Amherstburg Brownies spent a weekend in March with Jack and Annie and went on adventures in the Magic Tree House.
They started off by making medieval Challetes to use for their surprise Medieval Feast.

We went on many adventures as we went on a scavenger hunt all around the camp and ran from dinosaur, rode a dolphin, fought like ninjas and swam very quietly away from the crocodiles in the amazon.

In the afternoon Jack and Annie,  along with the Brownies came across a volcano and helped fix it up with paper mache and brown tissue paper.  Later on after dinner the we watched it erupt right in front of our own eyes. (Coke and Mentos)

Later on,  we all enjoyed a messy chicken and potato medieval feast with soup and fresh bread.

The girls had a blast and enjoyed the special activites that Jack and Annie had in store for them.

If you would like any of the program from the camp let me know.

Crazy Science

About a month ago, the Brownies enjoyed a guest speaker to finish their Key to Stem.  Dr. Terry Lawrence Taylor, talked to the girls about women in science and did some fun activities related to science.   For an opening activity, the girls drew pictures of what they thought a scientist looked like. Some of the pictures, were pretty crazy.

The girls learned about what it takes to be a scientist as well as some of the jobs that they could do when being a scientist.  Such as a doctor, a nurse, an engineer, or a teacher.   They learned that their finger prints are not all the same and that there is three different types:  arch, loop and whorl.  To test this theory, the girls used magic marker on their fingers and dabbed it on a piece of paper.  When all 5 fingers were done, they were able to see what their finger prints were.

The girls had a great time learning from Dr. Terry Lawrence Taylor.   She encouraged all the girls to like science and have fun with it.   Even though this finishes up their Key to Stem, they may still work on the interest badges. The 4 below, will be in the badge challenges section of the site.

Thinking Day Celebrations!!

It has been awhile, so it is now time to catch up on what we have done this year. Our Brownies have had a very busy couple of months with many outings, camps and activities in our meetings.

We celebrated Thinking Day by doing a sleepover at the church with a Girl Guide Unit.  This gave the girls the opportunity to mix and mingle with other Guiding sisters. We completed the 5 region challenge from Alberta.  All of us had the opportunity to try new foods such as: Jamaican Beef Patties, won ton soup, chicken enchiladas, sauerkraut, perogies and much more.  We also tried our hand at some games from other countries and attempted the Irish Jig.

We finished off the weekend with a flag ceremony and reciting our promise in front of the church congregation.  We were treated after with a wonderful luncheon put on by the church.

As a unit, we celebrated Thinking Day by playing a large life size board game. The girls traveled in teams of two around the "board game" answering questions about: Brownies, the history of Girl Guides, WAGGGS, and the world centers.

The girls throughly enjoyed the game.   If anybody would like the instructions and some questions please feel free to contact me by filling out a blog contact form.

Sew What?

On Saturday,  a few of our girls went out to Bryerswood to learn how to Sew. We made Knotted Pillows with name tags, weaved owls that are pouched and little purses.  The girls had a great time and are looking forward to the next one.  Here are some photos of the event.

Congratulations Emily!!!!

Emily is one eager Brownie! She completed the Brownie Be a Chef  badge.  She made rainbow chip cupcakes at home one day and took pictures of her accomplishments.  Emily said that her cupcakes were really yummy and can't wait until she makes a new batch.   The next meeting, she is going to bring her work in to present to the unit so she could get her badge.

Emily is looking forward to doing more badges out of the book.  To check out some badges that the girls could work on they could look through the Brownie book or check the page on this Brownie blog called "Badge Challenges.  Then when the badge is complete, bring it to the meeting and we will give you time to present it.   Keep up the good work!

Happy Badge Doing!
